Police Brutality, Confederate Imagery, and the Post-1960s Civil Rights Movement: A Book Talk with Michael Butler

October 26, 2016 @ 12:00 pm

Free

In the past year, citizens have consistently made headlines fighting against remembered systems of oppression. All the while, racism continues to be perpetuated in American political and social systems. In past months, the visible memory of Confederate monuments throughout the South have been challenged by its citizens. Most recently, our nation as a whole is being confronted by actions of police brutality. How are these events connected to one another, and how is this tied to the historical legacy of the Civil Rights Movement?
