The UF Anthropology Department (opens in new tab), Center for African Studies (opens in new tab), and International Center (opens in new tab) (UFIC) offer students an opportunity to earn 14 credits in SP 2014 participating in ongoing excavations at Mochena Borago, a large rockshelter in the SW Ethiopian highlands containing deposits spanning the last 50-60,000 years, as well as other sites of contemporary age in the adjacent Rift Valley. Partnering with Germany’s University of Cologne, and in collaboration with Ethiopia’s Authority for Research and Conservation of Cultural Heritage, Addis Ababa University and Wolaita Sodo University, participants will help test theories on the African origin and spread of “modern human behavior.”
Courses will be taught by Dr. Steven A. Brandt, UF Dept. of Anthropology with Grad Assistant: Justin Dunnavant, UF Dept. of Anthropology and SPOHP Graduate Coordinator.

Applications to apply (opens in new tab) are available on the SWEAP Facebook group or by emailing Dr. Brandt. A maximum of 8 students will be selected after application review and interview. The deadline to apply is October 31.
