Welcome From the Acting Director, Dr. Matt Jacobs

Dear Friends and Supporters of the Samuel Proctor Oral History Program,

I am both honored and excited to extend a warm welcome to you as the acting director of the Samuel Proctor Oral History Program (SPOHP). As many of you are aware, I have stepped into this role following Dr. Paul Ortiz’s departure. I want to take a moment to express my profound appreciation for Dr. Ortiz’s leadership and contributions to the program in his fifteen years as director. We wish him all the best as he settles in at Cornell University.

SPOHP’s mission to record and preserve the rich diversity of human experience through oral histories remains as vital as ever. With the strong foundation laid by Dr. Ortiz, I am committed to advancing our projects and ensuring that the stories we collect continue to inspire and educate future generations.

As we look ahead, I want to inform you that the program, in conjunction with the Department of History, will be conducting a search for a new director in Fall 2024. This search is an exciting opportunity to bring new vision and energy to our work, and we are eager to find a leader who will continue to uphold and enrich the legacy of our program.

In the meantime, I am thrilled to work with each of you and appreciate your ongoing support and engagement. Together, we will continue to celebrate and preserve the voices and stories that define our collective history.

Thank you for your commitment to the Samuel Proctor Oral History Program. I look forward to this new chapter and the continued success of our shared mission.

Warm regards,

Dr. Matt Jacobs
