The panel presentations of the 9 history majors who traveled to Cuba over spring break for a course on slavery and the legacies of slavery will be held on Tuesday, April 8! The panel is titled: “Seeing is Believing: Studying Cuba in Cuba, a UF Student Perspective.” Students will present images and a mini-film to illustrate their arguments. SPOHP students will be featured during the presentation, including Joanna Joseph and Latino History Coordinator Genesis Lara.
The event will take place Tuesday, April 8 from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in the Latin American reading room of Smathers.
Please also note: on Thursday, April 3 from 4:30 to 7 p.m., the archival exhibit featuring new acquisitions, “Revolucionarias: Women and the Formation of the Cuban Nation” will be celebrated. In addition to excellent curation by Margarita Vargas-Betancourt, the exhibit was crafted by Lexi Baldacci and Daniel Fernandez, graduate students specializing in the history of Cuba. Jenny Lambe, now Assistant Professor at Brown University, will be one of the speakers, along with Michelle Chase.
