The History Honors Conference and awards luncheon will take place this Saturday in Pugh Hall. The schedule is available online from the History Department  7 panels will run from 9:00 to 12:15 and from 1:45 to 4:45.

  • Forms of Social Control & Resistance in Nineteenth- and Twentieth-Century America
  • Leaders and Movements of Reform: America’s Shifting Social Landscape, 1860-1980
  • Homeland, Diaspora, and Migration in the Twentieth- and Twenty-First Centuries
  • The Caribbean: Race, Identity, and Politics in the Colonial and Modern Eras
  • Reconstructing the Past & Negotiating the Present: Memory, Ideology, & Diplomacy in the Modern World

Latino History Project Coordinator Génesis Lara will speak on “The Forgotten Revolution: Memory, Politics, and Anti-Colonial Struggle in the Dominican Republican, 1961-1965” and AAHP staff member Toni-Lee Maitland will present on “Slavery and Revolution: Henry Laurens and the Problem of Freedom.” Joanna Joseph will discuss her research on “The Colonial Judaic Diaspora in Saint Domingue” and intern alumni Helen Miney will also speak on “The Irish Emigrant: A Nation in Miniature.” Congratulations to all SPOHP graduates for Spring 2014!

At the awards luncheon, from 12:15 to 1:45, the department will recognize departmental and other awardees this year. The dean will speak, and all students, staff and faculty are invited to attend this celebratory event.
