“12 Years a Slave” Roundtable Discussion and Brown Bag Lunch

Join the SPOHP team for a panel discussion of the book and new movie adaptation, “12 Years a Slave,” on December 3, 2013. The narrative follows the autobiography of Solomon Northrup, a free black man who was kidnapped in Washington, D.C. in 1841 and sold into slavery. He worked on plantations in the state of Louisiana for 12 years before his release. The film stars Chiwetel Ejiofor as Northup and is directed by Steve McQueen. The discussion will feature Justin Hosbey and Justin Dunnavant, graduate coordinators of the African American History Project, and undergraduate student Tahiri Jean-Baptiste. This discussion  will take place in advance of the annual Mississippi Trip Student panel the following day, December 4, at the Civic Media Center.
